The summer protests of Black Lives Matter brought the issues of race to the fore on a global scale. Why are we black? Why are we white? Why do we divide ourselves along colour lines? This issue is explored in U.Mi-1 film Why the Night Sky is Black which seeks to answer these questions from the perspective of three distinctive artists – a musician, a ballerina and an actor – reflecting on their work. Through their ideologies, the trio bring hope and inspiration that like the stars which will eventually light up the night sky, our humanity can flourish when we recognise the star in every individual.
